BIG NEWS: ANNOUNCING DOUG'S NEW COTTAGE
Campground: Cerbat Foothills Recreation Area. Free. Parking area up front. Lots of mountain biking, hiking trails. A bit crowded with lots of Rv-ers. But free is free. Pretty windy this time of year.
Campground: Riverside Casino Rv Park. $98 per week + taxes. Great deal, and a favorite stop on my summer travels.
Warm evenings for sitting out with views of Casino row |
Before leaving the Kingman area, where I camped out in parking lots, Cracker Barrels, next to Walmarts that also permits overnight parking/camping. I also checked out Cerbat Foothills Rec area and stayed one night. Pretty crowded, but I found a decent spot, though the guy near me turned out to enjoy his music and gaming (sounds of race cars zooming) very loud. Didn’t overly bother me, as I was able to listen to my own music and Tv. He did turn everything off around 10pm which was nice.
this cave entrance is a mystery. it's very shallow with evidence that it once had a door attached probably built during the early 1800's by the Army |
campsite/trail head is open range, mooooo |
I traveled from Kingman Az to Laughlin Nevada along hwy 68. A short 40 minute drive. I headed out early as this time of year it is often very windy. I might add the temperature is climbing mid week to the 100 degree range as well. The Rv A/C is handling the heat quite well.

I had a really fun ride along the Colorado River walking/biking trail and climbed up to the top of Davis Dam. Even though I started my ride early morning, the winds were quite brisk. To the point a couple of times I was leaning against the wind. After getting to the top, passing a couple of regular bikes, as I easily peddled my E-bike up the hill, I almost felt guilty having used the power assist. But, I had to chuckle as if I had somehow won a race to the top.
exploring a new bike path/hiking along the Colorado River Bullhead City side. |
Heading across the dam, I discovered that the Bullhead side has been working feverishly on a new bike path which will link a large loop trail on both sides of the river. So, even though it was still under construction, I had to ride part of it. Well, ok, most of it. Now I would never have done this if it wasn’t for you, my good readers. Knowing you’d want a report on this awesome new bike path. Entering via a spur connector (which had no DO NOT ENTER signs) I gleefully peddled my way on a most exciting newly paved route. Lots of turns, hills and valleys to traverse. Soooo glad I was riding my E-bike. I’m not sure I could have peddled my arse up and around all those hills and valleys. Near the far end, I noticed a lot of construction vehicles, and before they could see me, I turned around and retraced my newly discovered route.

Oh how I'm enjoying my E-Bike |
a couple days later, I ride on another section of the new bike path |
A couple days later I had a second ride along the Nevada side of the Colorado River, across the top of the dam and discovered that another section of the new bike trail had been paved. Talk about quick work. Needless to say, I road on this section and enjoyed some awesome views overlooking an alcove where a new lakeside overlook stop with benches and three cantilevered fishing docks have been created. Neither the fisherman nor I had any qualms about exploring the new paved trail and docks.

FINALLY, The Big News Can be Revealed
Doug’s New Tropical Lakeside Cottage!
TA Da!!! Doug's New Cottage Shelter Cover, St Cloud Florida |
After a long two
month wait, the paperwork, financing and 3 appraisal attempts,
wondering if I would be able to get the loan or not, and it finally
all came together on Monday, Tuesday. Contract signed, funds transferred to the Title company, etc. (how many date changes can we have?) So I now have a permanent Cottage to
come to during the winter months back in Florida.
Doug's Tropical Cottage of course I'll be adding lots of tropical palms |
Description: Of course You can look at all the pictures that Kelly (my niece) and Dorothy (my sister) took of the place. They did such a good job documenting the place for my view and decision making. Rusty provided great input as to the condition of the place making the decision to purchase that much easier. My Cottage is in the same community (Shelter Cove) where I own three Rv lots that I lease out. The new cottage (to me) is along a pretty street and canal leading out to Lake Common. it’s a one bedroom Park Model with a large Florida Room and extra bathroom/laundry room. All overlooking a grassy lawn and 70 foot wooden dock and boat slip fronting the canal/lake views.
- small one bedroom, built in closet and drawers
- full bathroom
- small fully electric kitchen, open to:
- living room with sliding glass doors to Florida Room
- large florida room with bathroom/laundry room at far end
I’ve been able to complete this all remotely while wintering in Arizona and beginning my summer travels through New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada. Hoping it would all turn out. I had my truck (Big Blue) transported to Florida ahead of the purchase of the cottage.
Thank you, Warren Smith for selling me your place Florida Room |
it's a one bedroom Park Model (smaller than a mobile home) all built in storage, side tables, bed |
a bit dated, but well kept through the years I'll be doing some updating in this area |

comes fully furnished, a nice bonus counter between kitchen and living room |
Rusty (left) did a great job checking out the place Warren, the previous owner living room off of Kitchen |
